Boat docks in Camdenton and on the Niangua arm
Dock building and repair for Camden County's seat and the coves along the lower Niangua arm.
Camdenton is the county seat of Camden County and had 3,960 residents at the 2020 census. It was platted in 1930 at the junction of U.S. 54 and Route 5 after the rising lake flooded the old county seat of Linn Creek. The city sits on the lower Niangua arm of the lake, with Ha Ha Tonka State Park and Bridal Cave nearby.
Arm and cove shorelines
Much of the shoreline near Camdenton lines narrower arms and coves rather than the open main channel. That matters for dock size: Ameren limits a dock in a cove up to 500 feet wide to one-third of the distance to the far shore or 25 feet short of the cove's center, whichever is tighter, and never more than 100 feet out. A builder will measure your cove before sketching a layout.
Common Camdenton-area work
- Compact docks designed to fit narrow coves
- Docks that stay afloat in shallow back-cove water during winter lows
- Re-decking and flotation on older weekend-home docks
- Riprap where the bank is undercut
Head-of-cove and wetland areas
Coves that end in shallow, undeveloped heads or wetlands carry tighter shoreline rules. Ameren requires seawalls in those spots to stay landward of elevation 659.5 feet, and work reaching into a wetland also needs Corps of Engineers approval. Check your fire protection district's requirements for dock electrical work as well.
Common questions
My cove is narrow. Can I still have a two-slip dock?
Possibly. It depends on the cove's width and your side setbacks. A builder can measure and show what fits.
Do Camdenton docks need an electrical permit?
Lake-area fire districts require permits and inspections for docks with power. Ask your local fire protection district what applies at your address.
